DEPARTMENT PROFILE
Department of Mathematics of our Institute was started in the year 1935 as Science wing at Lingaraj College. It was progressing by leaps and bounds and subsequently in 1941 was named as Raja Lakhamagouda Science Institute after the name of the munificent Sardar Raja Lakhamagouda Basavaprabhu Sardesai of Wantmuri, who had generously helped the Institute. In 1944 Sir C. V. Raman, the Nobel Laureate inaugurated the degree course in Science. Further, in 1958 the Science wing was bifurcated from Lingaraj College as a full-fledged Science Institute. Since inception the Department has been striving to impart the Quality Education in Mathematics at U.G. level to the aspirant of this area. In the history of this campus our Department had the honor to organize an International Conference with many renowned Resource Persons.
The prominent faculty members such as Principal Chandrashekar Bellad, Principal S. G. Kallur, Shri.B.F.Patil, Dr.C.S.Salimath, Shri.P.L.Halagali, Smt.K.A.Raikar, Shri.B.M.Belagali, Shri.B.I.Noginhal, has contributed a lot for the growth of the Department. Some of the faculty member are recognized as Research Guides by the reputed Universities and are guiding the students for Ph.D. Degree. The Aluminous of the Department have occupied esteemed position in India and abroad.
Over view: Imparting of Quality Mathematics Education and inculcating the spirit of research through innovative teaching and research methodologies. Moreover the department contributes to the development of students as Mathematical thinkers, enabling them to become lifelong learners, to continue to grow in their chosen profession, and to function as productive citizens.
