1. About the department

Computer science department was started in 2013, now offers three combinations in UG course i.e.
1. Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science.
2. Mathematics, Electronics and Computer Science
3. Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science. The courses are eloquently carried to the student community such that it bridges the gap between IT industry requirements. The department strives and provides industry ready professionals. The courses are delivered through lectures with excellent qualified faculty, (who are experienced both in academics and has hands on in industry), Practical sessions, Projects, Add-on courses and workshops along with two certificate courses to address the present needs of society.

The department organizes two IT events every year namely SPARSH and AARUUSH for the students of our college and other college to bring out their talents and to provide them an opportunity to prove their innovative skills.

The department has a state of art lab facility with Thin-client technology to enrich computational techniques and thinking for solving problems.

Department of Physics

1. Brief History of the Department

Physics department was established in the year 1935 as a part of Lingraj College. In 1944 the degree course in science was inaugurated by the Nobel Laureate Sir C.V.Raman. Karnatak University PG course in Physics was introduced in 1948 and was continued upto 1957 in our department. In the year 1951 foundation stone of Physics Department was laid by Shri Jayachamarajendra Wadeyar. In 1958 the science wing was bifurcated from Lingraj college as a full fledged science institute called Raja Lakhamgouda Science Institute.

Dr G.S.Paramashivayya and Prof G.D.Somannavar from physics department worked as principal of the college and devoted themselves for the glory of the institute. Prof. G.D.Somannavar also had the previlage of working as Secretary of KLE Society, Belagavi. Later Prof. M.A.Hipparagi, Prof G.N.Kulkarni, Prof I.M.Kotabagi, Prof. T.G.Yadwad, Prof. B.L.Kolli, Prof. S.B.Mondrolli, Prof I.A.Nargund and Prof. S.V. Dalavai had the privilege of working as Head of the department . Presently Prof. B. B. Bawache is working as the Head of the department.

Looking into the needs of the stakeholder, our department introduced a new subject Electronics in the year 1988. PG Course in Physics (Solid State Physics) was introduced during the academic year 2010-11. A new combination with Electronics, Mathematics and Computer Science was introduced in the year 2013-14. Three certificate courses Electrical Engineering, Geo-Physics and Astro - Physics are introduced in the year 2013-14, 14-15 and 16 – 15 respectively.

Dr. Kameshwar Wali (Prof. Emeritus, Syracuse University, USA), Dr.C.N. Hiremath (Scientist America), Dr. Nutan Madikeri, Senior Scientist, IIT, Bombay, Dr. Collin d’silva , former Vice Admiral ,Indian Navy, Dr. V.N. 1. Brief History of the Department

The Department of Mathematics of our college started in the year 1935. It was progressing by leaps and bounds; and subsequently in 1941, it was named as Raja Lakhamagouda Science Institute after the name of the munificent Sardar Raja Lakhamagouda Basavaprabhu Sardesai of Wantmuri, who had generously helped the institute. Sir C. V. Raman, the Nobel Laureate inaugurated the degree course in science in 1944. Further, in 1958 the science wing was bifurcated from Lingaraj College as a full-fledged science institute. Since inception the Department has been striving to impart the quality education in Mathematics at U.G. level to the aspirant of this area. The department had the honor of imparting education in Mathematics at P.G. level from 1948 to 1957. The Department restarted Post Graduate programme in Mathematics in the year 2010 to meet the demand of potential students to pursue higher education. The faculty has contributed a lot for the growth of the Department. To supplement the knowledge of students and to bring them with the main stream 'Autonomous Status' has been granted to our college by UGC and is functioning from the academic year 2012-13.Ours is the first Department in North Karnataka to start NET/SLET coaching classes and same is continued. The Department also provides an opportunity to pursue research in Mathematics.

The Aluminous of the Department have occupied esteemed position in India and abroad. Now the Department has created a platform for researchers to do the research work on the thrust areas of Mathematics. The prominent faculty members such as Prin. Chandrashekar Bellad, Prin S.G.Kallur, Dr. Korwar, Prof B.F.Patil, Dr. C.S.Salimath, Prof(Smt) K.A.Raikar, Prof B.M.Belagali, Prof B.I.Noginhal have served this esteemed department.
